The 2015 Med-tech hack-a-thon was such an amazing experience! With very many institutions and private companies worldwide gathering at Mbarara University of Science and Technology the host university to share ideas that will improve our health care at an affordable cost . Local institutions represented were; Makerere University, Uganda Christian University, Kyambogo University, Kampala International University, International Health Sciences University, Innovex, Codinex to mention but afew. International institutions represented Vellore Institute of Technology in India, MIT in USA, MGH – USA.     It was a successful event with over 180 participants who pitched 44 projects that were presented for the awards.
As is the norm, there is always interaction among participants prior to being in the hacking room at the eve of the hack-a-thon which makes it easy for team formation after the problem pitches. The most interesting thing is that these teams from different institutions share ideas from a diverse perspective when trying to come up with solutions to their challenges which makes problem solving as inclusive as possible. Our want is to have as many institutions represented in these Medical technology hack-a-thons to have the greatest impact.
